Yep. I said it. Blue jeans are NOT an essential piece of clothing to have in your regular wardrobe. By regular wardrobe, I mean day-to-day wear. I have blue jeans for doing outdoor work, camping, etc. However, I don’t wear blue jeans day to day.
I avoid blue jeans for a couple of reasons. If I wear a navy cardigan, blazer, top, etc, I often feel too much like a crayon unintentionally. In contrast, when I do a monochromatic grey look with grey jeans, it looks more deliberate. Overall, I find colored denim – even in neutral colors – looks more deliberate.
Second reason – double blue denim is a combo I rarely like to rock. I only feel confident in double denim when the colors or washes are significantly different. With my light denim jacket, I can easily pair it with colored denim and feel confident walking out the door.
As always, if you love blue jeans – rock them! If not, there are a plethora of colored denims out there! If jeans aren’t in your day-to-day wardrobe, chinos, slim cut cargos, or trousers are always sleek pant options.
Look out for a look book of colored denim when the weather cools down a little more!
