Oct. 11: Thrifting Lingerie

Yeah, I know that probably sounds a little weird, but hear me out. When I had the opportunity to go thrifting in Phoenix, I was super excited. I still am! A lot of thrift stores are MUCH larger than back home – which means more categories of stuff to sift through, including a lingerie section.

I have and still do spend quite a pretty penny on quality bras that fit well. So, I’ll admit, when it comes to the rest of my lingerie or pajamas, I can be a bit of a penny pincher. Thanks to a local Goodwill, I can now thrift cute lingerie or pajama pieces for a low price. Of my first round of exploring this section, I found two cute bralettes for only $3 apiece.

Bralettes usually run at a minimum of $15/16 dollars, and easily increase to the $25/30 price point at some locations. With COVID-19, buying bralettes also runs more of a risk since I’m more busty. Since I typically order lingerie on clearance (and thus can’t return them), the last thing I want is to order multiple bralettes online only to try them on and have them not fit!

Now, you might be thinking “Isn’t that unsanitary to buy lingerie from a thrift store?” I mean, t shirts and dresses, sure – but lingerie? First, one of the bralettes I purchased still had its tags, and I’m fairly certain tagged clothing items are quite clean. Second, our breasts can change size relatively quickly when our weight fluctuates (something definitely exaggerated by COVID) – so how many items have you given away because your size changed before you could get good use out of your clothes? Probably decently often. Like other clothing items, a simple wash and bralettes, bras, nightgowns, or pajamas will be ready for you to love them!

Thank you for stopping by. I know my posts have been quite short lately. School does have to come first, but I love stopping by to write a little about finds and tips! As always, stay happy, healthy, and safe!

Announcement: on a side note, do we like the formatting of no “drop caps” at the beginning of the paragraph? Just testing it out. If you have a significant preference either way, let me know!

August 9: Soap Bags and Announcement

Having good skin days with few or no breakouts boosts my confidence as much as a great hair day or a perfect ensemble. So, I decided to continue the beauty theme from last week! This week is about a way to be more plastic free in your skin care: soap bags.

I have been using these sisal soap bags for the past few months (actually, I’m only on my second one after several months), which come in a small cardboard box as a set of four:

Natural Sisal Soap Bag packaging

The product is somewhat self explanatory. It’s just a little bag made with natural fiber. To use: simply insert your desired bar soap, pull a drawstring tight, and enjoy the lather!

Empty fiber soap bag

Why use these bags instead of a loofa, you may ask? I find that loofas don’t lather super well with bar soap, and the older I get the less I like loading up a loofa with liquid soap from a bottle. After all, a plastic bottle can only be recycled so many times – and that’s if it doesn’t end up in the landfill from a contaminated batch of recycling. My sisal bags simply give the same lather (and exfoliating scrubby goodness) as a loofa – with less plastic waste.

Full soap bag

So, why not just use bar soap? Maybe it’s just me (and I don’t think it is), bar soap becomes a massive pain when the bar becomes tiny. The sisal bag keeps the bar contained and not slippery! When your first bar of soap becomes small, or is used up entirely, simply slip in another bar of soap and you are good to go!

Hopefully you’ve been enjoying the slight tangent from my usual content! Clothes are great, but a boost from good beauty habits/products is irreplaceable.

Announcement: Starting after this post, I will be posting pre-written/scheduled posts that will be released on Sundays for the next few weeks. This is because I will be moving to (and adjusting to) Phoenix and my first semester of law school. Until then, stay healthy and happy!

June 7: Back With An Upgrade

I think we can all agree that this has shaped up to be a crazy year. I certainly wasn’t planning on being away from this as long as I was. This blog has always been fun to write! One of the major challenges, though, was getting pictures for blog posts. I managed to have photo shoots with a friend at the camera last summer and fall. However, with school picking up and the pandemic, maintaining those shoots became exceedingly difficult. I am happy to report, however, that I recently got a new upgrade.

TADA! I purchased a tripod for my iPhone, meaning I can now do my own photo shoots at any time, making it easier to get content out to you! With this new addition, I will be resuming my one post a week routine, starting with some new updates I added to my wardrobe for when I go to Phoenix, Arizona in August!

I look forward to seeing you all weekly again! If there is any type of content you want to see, put it in the comments!

Feb 9: Next in Fashion Inspiration – Episode 4

The new Netflix show Next in Fashion was released not long ago, and (of course) I binged it! I wanted to share some of my inspiration from the fourth episode, Streetwear! I’m generally more polished in my style, so I wanted to show inspiration that contrasted with my usual aesthetic. Hopefully I can create looks off of these and show them to you when the weather gets warmer! (There is currently a foot of snow outside, and its a little chilly.)

Taken from Netflix’s Next in Fashion, Episode 4

The first outfit I was struck by was this over-sized sweatshirt cinched with a thick, corset-like belt action. (Please forgive the picture quality. I, for the life, of me, could not get these pictures to screenshot, so I took them with my phone.) Over-sized sweatshirts are super comfy, and a thick belt lets you wear them without losing your waistline. One great thing (of many) in this look is that the shoe pairings are nearly limitless. For a more casual look, you can pair it with sneakers or an ankle boot or a heel or thigh high boots!

The next was the layering in this lovely ensemble! Tops over a maxi dress look great, and a jacket on top provides even more interest. I also loved the bold layering and boots paired with the more subdued color palette. Also am in love with both the beanie and brimmed hat! This is an outfit inspiration I will definitely jump on when it gets warmer. A maxi dress offers more cover than most dresses, and that with the layering will help you stay warm if there’s a cool breeze on an early spring day. Like the previous outfit, the shoe options are vast, though the utilitarian vibe of both the shoes and jacket are a nice contrast to the sexy slit in the dress. A good variation might be a leather jacket (a trend for 2020) and a pump.

Thanks for stopping by, and if you’ve seen the show, let me know what outfits you were inspired by either in this episode or any of the others!

Announcement: Forgive my inconsistent posting, I’ll be doing more inspiration posts in the coming weeks. But alas, school must come first! (And hopefully my new laptop won’t die like my old one… rest in peace.) I was recently accepted to law school, and I definitely don’t want to slip in my last semester of undergrad!

Jan 1, 2020: Announcement – New Year, New Organization

If you take a dive into the blog posts menu for Zeebstyle, you’ll notice that it has been reorganized (and a long time coming in my opinion)! It took me longer than I expected with school, applications, and the holidays – but it is here to start off 2020!

Don’t get me wrong, I liked the alliteration of Fashion Fridays and Selfie Sundays. But, I didn’t have any hard rules onto what types of information or topics went into each category. Whenever I wanted to go back and look at old posts, I had to take a guess on what was wear. If I had to guess where stuff was – that meant you would definitely be doing the same thing! Soooooooo, the new breakdown was born:

Announcements: Relatively self-explanatory, I should say. However, all posts that have announcements within them will be included – not just posts dedicated to announcements.

Beauty: I don’t imagine there will be a ton of these, but I felt beauty posts (only one post right now) deserved its own section.

Closet Building: These will be posts that involve me building my closet or tips to help you build yours!

Inspiration Station: A category which I hope will become robust over the next year. This will be the place I showcase other people’s style on the blog!

OOTD: Where I shall put lookbook/OOTD related posts.

Real Talk: Talking about topics related to style. This may include body image, Photoshop, or any current events related to style.

Style Strategies: Tips and tricks to how I shop, build my outfits, etc.

Hopefully, these categories will be useful as Zeebstyle grows! If you have any questions or feedback related to the new organization, please let me know!

I look forward to a year full of style!

Make-up: A Strong Lip

You may have noticed that my make-up in most of my photos is fairly neutral. Today, I wanted to show off a strong lip for you guys!

When doing a strong lip color, I like to keep my eyes understated. The point of make-up is to enhance your features. A strong lipstick highlights the beauty of your lips by drawing attention. Keeping the eyes neutral keeps the attention on the lips and keeps a balance to the overall look.

A strong lip doesn’t have to be the bright red or matte like I used here. A shiny colored gloss in tints of orange or purple can achieve a similar effect. Don’t be afraid to play around with different colors!

Tip: When I use a color, I make sure it contrasts somewhat strongly with whatever top I am wearing to avoid a costume or themed feel. But if that’s you, go for it! Make-up is meant to enhance you and reflect your personality. Have fun with it!

Announcement: I know I haven’t been posting the past couple of weeks, but that doesn’t mean work hasn’t been happening behind the scenes! I’ll be unveiling some new content and organization on the site soon. Stay tuned!

Sept. 22: Re-purposing Project Completed!

I am super stoked to say that I finished my project of re-purposing my statement necklace. Twice it had snapped in the middle, but I loved it so much I couldn’t let it go completely!

So… I took apart the necklace until I had just the beads. Then, I used chains I already had to create these two beauties down below!!

I can’t wait to show you outfits modelling these two new handmade pieces. And, since I have leftover beads, you could very well be seeing more re-purposed pieces here on Zeebstyle!

Announcement: Now that the semester is in full swing, I am going to cut down to only one post per week minimum rather than two. It’ll come out on either Friday or Sunday so that I can keep “Fashion Fridays” and “Selfie Sundays.”
