Nov 15: Styling a Velvet Shirt

This is going to be a really quick post – I hope these quick outfit inspiration posts have been a source of inspiration for you! I know I’ll definitely be coming back to these posts on days I don’t know what to wear.

This week is a quick styling of a velvet shirt. Velvet is a texture I normally stay away from. Some cheaper velvets are just an uncomfortable texture. Velvet was also just outside of my comfort zone in general, which was compounded by the fact that many colored velvets were in tones that didn’t match what I normally wear. However, my thrifted V-neck velvet tee was a change of pace that I am currently loving for casual outfits. While I styled these with a tee, you could swap it out with a camisole or more blouse shape.

My first outfit paired my velvet tee with one of my all time favorite clothing pieces: my utility jacket. (Seriously, if you don’t have one, I highly recommend.) This shirt is a looser fit, so the cinch/waist drawstring detail of the jacket helps to add some waist definition. I paired this with my “mom jeans” and my Adidas sneakers to round out the casual feel. This is a fairly easy look to replicate. I find it helpful to stick to your more common silhouettes or favorite pieces when you are working in a garment that is outside of your comfort zone.

Speaking of using your more familiar silhouettes, I busted out my favorite purple pants for my next outfit. The skinny fit of the jeans and the tighter fit of the jacket add a tailored feel to the looser shirt. While I could have paired it with sneakers, I loved the idea of complimenting the sheen of the velvet with metallic flats.

Last, but certainly not least, is another casual look. I love the color play between the pink of the shirt and the navy and green in the flannel. The black jeans and white sneakers provide a contrast, but the neutral tones let the color play be more center-stage. I would add a black belt and partially roll up the flannel’s sleeves before rushing out the door to run some errands!

Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Nov. 1: Styling a Funky Printed Tee

Did I almost completely forget to write a post today? Yes. Blame law school, and here I am.

Moving onto the outfits! Graphic tees are easily one of the most effortless ways to express your personality in an outfit. However, patterned tees are a bolder way to do the same. I was so pumped to find a tee printed with PUFFINS. Today I’ll be using it to show how a bold printed tee works in a variety of outfits.

My first ensemble is one of the more casual options. The red-orange color of the shirt pops against the olive color of the jacket. “Mom” jeans and chunkier sneakers add to the casual feel. I also love how the white shoe picks up on the white in the tee!

My second outfit feeds (again) on my inspiration of the tee and heeled bootie pairing. The mom jeans also add to the “dressy and casual” contrast. A loose neutral cardigan lets the bold color of the tee shine and still remain cozy!

Third, another casual outfit. This time we’re mixing our denims. Black jeans and a lighter patterned denim jacket add even more casual dimension to the puffin shirt. I decided to add darker gray converse to keep the casual feel and not contrast too much from the black jeans. That way, the contrast of the shirt next to the pants remains the focus of the outfit.

Last, but certainly not least, is a paring with a blazer! The black blazer is not too abrasive against the orange toned shirt, in my opinion, because it plays off of the black within the pattern. The blazer also has scrunched sleeved to add a more casual feel. The gray chino pant plays a similar role as the blazer, showing that the outfit was created around the playful statement shirt. Lastly, white (albeit dirty) converse round out the outfit and remains cohesive with the shirt’s color palette.

Thanks for stopping by! I loved getting back into styling outfits – even if I’m not modelling them. This definitely saves me some major time, so I’m able to still post and do all of my homework!

I can’t wait to see you next week! In the meantime, as always, stay happy and healthy!

Oct. 25: Styling Thrifted Purple Trousers

Well, as you could guess, I’m still too toasty to wear my jeans. However, I don’t want to wait any longer to show how I would (will, eventually…) style my thrifted finds. So, instead of on my person, they’ll be displayed Pinterest/gallery style! This week, it’s my purple trousers I thrifted this summer!

Apologies for the weird color appearances in these photos. Something about the color and fabric make it almost impossible to get an accurate color on my iPhone camera. The truest color is around the waistband of the pants in the photo above!

The first ensemble is inspired by the “graphic tee and booties” look I have adored seeing on social media this fall. For the picture, I simply placed a white v-neck tee: plain tees also work, and you wouldn’t be able to see a graphic in this photo with the jean jacket anyway. I love this jacket because it is tailored and offers a subtle pattern for more interest than a plain denim jacket. The taupe booties add some texture for more interest.

This second look is probably the outfit I will be most likely to be able to wear here in Arizona. It’s simply a light, patterned, voluminous blouse which I would French-tuck (Thank you, Tan France.) into the trousers. Then, I would throw on a pair of white sneakers (or slip-ons) and head out the door. Light but definitely looks put together!

Third is an almost business casual outfit. The printed blouse adds most of the interest in the outfit, but I also love the color play between the blush pink of the blazer and the eggplant color of the pants. The loafer/slip-ons continue the vibe of a “casual business casual” that I love. Considering the lightness of all of the fabrics, this is another outfit I should be able to wear soon!

The last ensemble could be worn with either my white Converse or taupe booties – depending on how fancy I felt or how far I was walking. It mimics the color play of the last outfit with the pink tee. I topped it with a tan-colored cardigan which has a little bit of fuzzy texture (though you can’t see it in the photo). If nothin else, the cardigan is meant to protect you from the very aggressive air conditioning. This is definitely a blank slate outfit that could be worn with a scarf if you’re in a colder climate or a statement necklace if you are still having 80 degree highs – like myself.

I hope you enjoyed these little outfit inspirations! I’m definitely missing the chilly fall weather of the Midwest and Northeast. Let me know if we like the gallery style more – I think it’ll be far easier to get more outfits per post this way!

Oct. 18: OOTD and Thrift Finds

…it’s still too hot to wear pants…

…SO…

I thought I would do an OOTD post and show the two shirts I got at the thrift store today!

My outfit of the day was my thrifted sundress you’ve seen before from my thrift haul series! It’s been a life saver for me here in Phoenix, considering we have three-digit highs some days (Fall weather, I miss you…). I paired it with my white sneakers and my rose gold colored watch. I also wore my “default jewelry” of my class ring and faux pearl earrings.

Now the exciting new stuff. I admittedly was hoping that I would find more bralettes and dresses, but can you really have too many comfy tees? My first tee is more versatile, featuring white and tan stripes, a super soft fabric, and a flattering deeper neckline.

My second thrifted find is a more uniquely patterned shirt. Part of the major appeal of thrift stores, to me, are these fun patterned tees. This one I’m especially happy to have found since it matches the October/Halloween season.

Meet my tropical skull tee! It’s a men’s medium crew neck tee (a vast majority of the best patterned tees are in the men’s section, in my opinion) with cuffed sleeves, a breast pocket I will never use, and a super fun tropical and skull themed print.

The pattern somewhat limits this shirt to a more casual setting, but I think it’ll look great with my red or purple pants featured in my summer thrift haul series and a pair of converse sneakers. It’ll also look great with denim shorts in these toasty times!

As always, thanks for stopping by! Can’t wait to see you next week!

July 26: Instagram Outfit Inspiration

Today I’m bringing you four OOTD posts that I found inspiring on Instagram – and all of which tie into switching into my warmer climate wardrobe!

First is a post is from @girlthrifted, who is rocking a lovely straw hat and wedge sandals. Since Arizona is one of the sunniest places in the United States, I love finding cute OOTD posts that have a straw hat (or any larger brimmed hat)!

Second is from @zuzu.reinhard, wearing a bright crop and a wide leg patterned pant. While I’m not a huge crop fan for myself, I can easily swap out the crop for a regular tee.

Third, with two outfits, is an OOTD post from @scandimuses. Both outfits are an effortless mix of casual and tailored pieces, which I love! You’ll likely see the influence of these outfits in a future post here on Zeebstyle, so stay tuned!

Hopefully you find these OOTD posts as inspiring as I did. Stay tuned! And, as always, stay safe, and stay healthy!

July 19: OOTD for Thrifting

I love buying clothes at the thrift store – especially since my local Goodwill is one of the most inexpensive thrift stores I’ve ever been in!

Shopping for clothes in a thrift store is a lot like shopping in a mall – you should be smart about your outfit to get the best result. The best type of outfit, I find, it one that is fitted (to your comfort level) on both the top and the bottom.

Thrifting OOTD

I go for a fitting tank or V-neck tee and a pair of slim or straight fit jeans (or something similar). It’s comfortable, easy (and fast) to change in and out of, and – most importantly, give me the most flexibility when trying on thrifted clothing.

Very seldom do I find both a pair of pants and a shirt that fit when I go thrifting. When I’m in the dressing room, I find it harder to get an idea of how the garment sits if I’m not fully clothed – so I avoid dresses when thrifting for clothes.

Now, if I am wearing looser clothes, I run into a similar problem trying on looser pieces. For example, instead of my tank top I wear a blouse. I go to Goodwill and find a beautiful pair of wide leg trousers. When I try them on, I’m wearing a big breezy blouse on top, meaning I can’t see how the pants sit best with a tighter-fitting shirt (which is how I would actually wear them). The only way I can get an idea of the fit is look without a shirt – which gives me no idea of how the pants look with a tucked-in shirt – or I wear my big blouse and feel like I’m swimming in clothes – which does not do much for feeling confident. And how often do we buy things we aren’t confident in? The answer should be never.

That just sounds like a mess, doesn’t it? Well, I avoid that altogether by wearing a fitted shirt so I can see those wide-leg trousers in all of their glory – and follow the same rule for my bottoms.

Thank you for listening to my small tangent on my thought process for my thrifting outfit choice. If you want to do more thrift shopping, I recommend following this same idea to increase your chance of success!

Feel free to leave your thrifting tips in the comments! I’ll see you next week! Until then, stay safe, and stay healthy!

June 21: Styling My New Black Skirt

As I mentioned last week, this week I have two outfits with my new black skirt! The first is a casual option: the new skirt with a plain pink V-neck, gray waffle knit cardigan, and a pair of white sneakers.

The shirt adds a pop of color, while the cardigan adds some light coverage and texture. You could substitute the cardigan for a denim jacket or utility-inspired piece (be it a vest or jacket).

The second look is more dressy, featuring a patterned blouse, substituting the tie belt, and metallic heeled sandals. Adding a cardigan and opting for a flat would make this combination perfect for a business casual environment. Swapping the blouse for a more colorful one could make it perfect for a brunch or date.

Even if this skirt isn’t your cup of tea, a black skirt can be a strong and versatile staple in your closet. If you don’t have one, it may be something to consider! You could also opt for any solid color skirt in a versatile silhouette and length, be it nude, gray, olive green, or red! Black is simply a classic and good starting point for those less confident or more understated in their style choices.

Next week I’ll be revealing another wardrobe update! So stay tuned!

Make-up: A Strong Lip

You may have noticed that my make-up in most of my photos is fairly neutral. Today, I wanted to show off a strong lip for you guys!

When doing a strong lip color, I like to keep my eyes understated. The point of make-up is to enhance your features. A strong lipstick highlights the beauty of your lips by drawing attention. Keeping the eyes neutral keeps the attention on the lips and keeps a balance to the overall look.

A strong lip doesn’t have to be the bright red or matte like I used here. A shiny colored gloss in tints of orange or purple can achieve a similar effect. Don’t be afraid to play around with different colors!

Tip: When I use a color, I make sure it contrasts somewhat strongly with whatever top I am wearing to avoid a costume or themed feel. But if that’s you, go for it! Make-up is meant to enhance you and reflect your personality. Have fun with it!

Announcement: I know I haven’t been posting the past couple of weeks, but that doesn’t mean work hasn’t been happening behind the scenes! I’ll be unveiling some new content and organization on the site soon. Stay tuned!

Sept. 29: Haul and OOTD

This past Friday, I went to the mall with some friends and picked up some new pieces I wanted to share with you! And, I wore them all today (because who can stay away from wearing their new stuff right away?) featured as my outfit of the day!

OOTD with THIGH HIGHS!!!

What you CAN see in the photo aboce is my new pair of thigh high boots from DSW. I was lucky enough to score them on clearance. Originally $100, I bought them for a steal at around $30. Woo! I like the taupe color and lack of a heel which makes them a more casual, every day shoe. I’ll definitely be wearing these to see if I might want to buy a heeled pair in the future. I am contemplating doing a lookbook post with these. Comment if you would be interested.

In my excitement for scarf season, which is finally upon us (on some days…)! I loved this scarf which has a trendy plaid and a hounds-tooth pattern with quintessential fall-color, mustard yellow. Mixed with white and brown, the scarf provides an earthy, snuggly feel which will be great in the fall weather.

Below is a selfie I took in an attempt to show my new hoops! Hoops are going to be a hot trend in fall 2019 into winter. With so many styles and sizes to choose from, you can buy a fun, funky pair or a more versatile pair to last for seasons to come. I liked the tortoise print of these because we don’t see pattern as often in earrings (as much as say sparkle or color). The neutral tones make it a more multi-use pair that I’ll have fun wearing for any occasion!

Me attempting to have good lighting but NOT squint.

Looking ahead: Be prepared to (hopefully) see more OOTDs and lookbooks in the fall. Without the oppressive heat, it’ll be far more fun to put together a plethora of looks to provide some inspiration!

Thanks again for stopping by!

Sept. 1: Outfit of the Day and Outfit Inspiration

This outfit of the day was inspired and made around my hat. I love this taupe large brimmed hat. It’s both fashionable and functional! I loved not squinting! I went with my black romper that you’ve seen before on a previous post – this time in a more funky, casual ensemble. I added my taupe booties and my denim chambray trench for more than just black and nude. Topped it off with metallic earrings, and I was out the door!

You can also see my model looking friend in this photo. We were twinning a little with the denim, and I looooooooooooove her shoes, so I couldn’t NOT include her in a post. The wedge is cute and functional. It adds a dressy casual feel to the outfit which I love. We are both wearing heels with a dress and simple denim jacket, but our styles are different and equally fantastic!

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll definitely be posting more outfit inspiration now that the fall semester has started, and I can see more amazing outfits than usual. Yay!
