Make-up: A Strong Lip

You may have noticed that my make-up in most of my photos is fairly neutral. Today, I wanted to show off a strong lip for you guys!

When doing a strong lip color, I like to keep my eyes understated. The point of make-up is to enhance your features. A strong lipstick highlights the beauty of your lips by drawing attention. Keeping the eyes neutral keeps the attention on the lips and keeps a balance to the overall look.

A strong lip doesn’t have to be the bright red or matte like I used here. A shiny colored gloss in tints of orange or purple can achieve a similar effect. Don’t be afraid to play around with different colors!

Tip: When I use a color, I make sure it contrasts somewhat strongly with whatever top I am wearing to avoid a costume or themed feel. But if that’s you, go for it! Make-up is meant to enhance you and reflect your personality. Have fun with it!

Announcement: I know I haven’t been posting the past couple of weeks, but that doesn’t mean work hasn’t been happening behind the scenes! I’ll be unveiling some new content and organization on the site soon. Stay tuned!

Selfie Sunday, Sept. 29: Haul and OOTD

This past Friday, I went to the mall with some friends and picked up some new pieces I wanted to share with you! And, I wore them all today (because who can stay away from wearing their new stuff right away?) featured as my outfit of the day!

OOTD with THIGH HIGHS!!!

What you CAN see in the photo aboce is my new pair of thigh high boots from DSW. I was lucky enough to score them on clearance. Originally $100, I bought them for a steal at around $30. Woo! I like the taupe color and lack of a heel which makes them a more casual, every day shoe. I’ll definitely be wearing these to see if I might want to buy a heeled pair in the future. I am contemplating doing a lookbook post with these. Comment if you would be interested.

In my excitement for scarf season, which is finally upon us (on some days…)! I loved this scarf which has a trendy plaid and a hounds-tooth pattern with quintessential fall-color, mustard yellow. Mixed with white and brown, the scarf provides an earthy, snuggly feel which will be great in the fall weather.

Below is a selfie I took in an attempt to show my new hoops! Hoops are going to be a hot trend in fall 2019 into winter. With so many styles and sizes to choose from, you can buy a fun, funky pair or a more versatile pair to last for seasons to come. I liked the tortoise print of these because we don’t see pattern as often in earrings (as much as say sparkle or color). The neutral tones make it a more multi-use pair that I’ll have fun wearing for any occasion!

Me attempting to have good lighting but NOT squint.

Looking ahead: Be prepared to (hopefully) see more OOTDs and lookbooks in the fall. Without the oppressive heat, it’ll be far more fun to put together a plethora of looks to provide some inspiration!

Thanks again for stopping by!

Selfie Sunday, Sept. 22: Re-purposing Project Completed!

I am super stoked to say that I finished my project of re-purposing my statement necklace. Twice it had snapped in the middle, but I loved it so much I couldn’t let it go completely!

So… I took apart the necklace until I had just the beads. Then, I used chains I already had to create these two beauties down below!!

I can’t wait to show you outfits modelling these two new handmade pieces. And, since I have leftover beads, you could very well be seeing more re-purposed pieces here on Zeebstyle!

Announcement: Now that the semester is in full swing, I am going to cut down to only one post per week minimum rather than two. It’ll come out on either Friday or Sunday so that I can keep “Fashion Fridays” and “Selfie Sundays.”

Selfie Sunday, Sept. 8 Part 2: Fit and Re-purposing

One of my “absolutes” in my style is that if it doesn’t fit, it either needs to go or has to change. Sometimes we love pieces and don’t want to get rid of them or we desperately want to try and make them fit. I understand – I’ve been guilty of that, myself. However, the more into style I get, the more I realize that clothes that don’t fit 1) often don’t make you feel confident and/or 2) they aren’t flattering. We all deserve clothes that flatter our bodies and make us feel confident. Nothing less.

There is a tool to save some of those items though, and that’s a tailor! Being petite, I face the “struggle” of finding many items of clothing that are too long to flatter my frame. Fortunately, I often shop at stores which have petite sizing. But, I am not afraid of a tailor! Clothes we buy in stores might NOT be made to fit your body right off the rack. (If they do, more power to you.) If the waist is too large or that leg too long, a tailor can easily hem and alter clothes to have them fit perfectly!

Of course, then we also have clothes that have outlived their use. We change shape and our lives take us on new paths. Our wardrobe should evolve with us. I firmly believe in reusing, re-purposing, etc. clothing items that no longer serve us well. You can drop them off at a thrift store or sell them on apps like Depop for a little extra cash.

Recently, one of my favorite statement necklaces of all time broke (R.I.P.). Whenever I wore it, I felt feminine and funky. (Notice those are two of my style adjectives?) Even though it no longer works, that doesn’t mean the life of the piece has to be over. I’ve taken the beads apart and am stoked to be refashioning them into a new piece of jewelry. I’ll definitely be showing it to you when my project is complete!

Thanks for swinging by and giving this post a read. I appreciate you so so much!!

Selfie Sunday, Sept. 8 Part 1: My Style Adjectives

I had the opportunity to help raid a friend’s closet and help them brainstorm outfit ideas. It was a blast, and it also got me thinking about how I put my outfits together. I mentioned in a past post that a dynamic outfit often pairs pieces that captures multiple aspects of my personality. Below is a list of my current style “adjectives” that I use. When I shop for pieces, I look for traits in the piece that hint at one of my style adjectives so that when I pair them with other items, the ensemble speaks to me as an individual.

  1. Funky
  2. Aggressive/Edgy
  3. Hipster
  4. Feminine
  5. Casual
  6. Preppy
  7. Sophisticated

Selfie Sunday, Sept. 1: Outfit of the Day and Outfit Inspiration

This outfit of the day was inspired and made around my hat. I love this taupe large brimmed hat. It’s both fashionable and functional! I loved not squinting! I went with my black romper that you’ve seen before on a previous post – this time in a more funky, casual ensemble. I added my taupe booties and my denim chambray trench for more than just black and nude. Topped it off with metallic earrings, and I was out the door!

You can also see my model looking friend in this photo. We were twinning a little with the denim, and I looooooooooooove her shoes, so I couldn’t NOT include her in a post. The wedge is cute and functional. It adds a dressy casual feel to the outfit which I love. We are both wearing heels with a dress and simple denim jacket, but our styles are different and equally fantastic!

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll definitely be posting more outfit inspiration now that the fall semester has started, and I can see more amazing outfits than usual. Yay!

Selfie Sunday, Aug. 25: Outfit Inspiration

Sorry for the lack of a post on Friday. I accidentally scheduled August 23’s post for this coming Friday. Oopsies! So, you’ll see it then, and stay on the lookout for another post! With that said, let’s get into it!

Today’s post is focused on outfit inspiration! At a dinner event thing-a-ma-jig, one of my lovely peers came with this amazing outfit!

When I saw her in this outfit I was OBSESSED and absolutely wanted to share it with you! I loved how she wore a patterned shirt with a textured black trouser. (Sadly, you can see the texture in this photo.) And also… THE SHOES. I love how shiny and bold they are. They add an element of cool, casual effortlessness to this look.

I don’t know if I would ever wear a button down shirt or those loafers, but she looks goooooooooood. How I would take this inspiration and apply it to my own wardrobe: shiny shoes (maybe ballet flats or heels), black trousers, and a patterned blouse. Any pattern would work, but I would probably go with a blue because I loved how the dark blue and black work together!

Thanks girlie for letting me take and post a picture!
