I have both thin hair (less hairs per square inch) and fine hair (thinner individual hair strands). While I love how my hair is naturally soft and silky, one of the challenges of thin and fine hair is how quickly it will become oily. Now, I could wash it everyday, but it’s no secret that every day washes are not the best for hair health.
One of the best pieces of advice to follow is to simply not touch your hair, since the oils from your hands add to oil your scalp naturally produces. My shower cap is a friend that helps me with that.
Let me explain. So, one of the time I touch my hair the most often is after I shower. More specifically, is after it gets wet. When I come out of the shower with wet hair, I brush/comb it, towel it, and run my hands through unruly hands. That’s a lot of potential to add oil or stimulate more oil production.
Since I started using a shower cap on my second (or third) hair days, my hair doesn’t get wet on days I’m not shampooing. This means I’m not touching it nearly constantly until it would normally dry, helping me go longer between washes. The longer between washes, the healthier my hair becomes overall AND the less shampoo and conditioner I use. That means… you guessed it, less waste. I (naturally) recommend a durable, reusable shower cap over disposables. Please enjoy a picture I took before a shower earlier this week!
Yes, I know I look super cute. 😉 This shower cap is sadly not available on Amazon, but there are a multitude of very similar options on both Amazon and other retailers. I would personally recommend one with only elastic in the back. I think it makes for a better fit and lowers the chance of water seeping as/if you are washing your face in the shower.
To all my thin and fine haired beauties, hopefully a shower cap will be right for you! I know it’s worked wonders for me (Otherwise, why would I bother writing about it…?).
